The Most Important Gift

“The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth…” – Genesis 6:5 (NIV)

In Genesis 6:5-7, the Bible reminds us about the wickedness of man and how disappointed God became that He decided to “…wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created…” (Verse 7). He had great regret. One man (Noah) found favour in the eyes of the Lord, and He decided to flood the earth and begin anew with him and his family. But after the flood, men returned to their wicked ways.

However, because of God’s love and mercy (John 3:16), He decided to send the Redeemer – His only begotten Son – to save us. God said whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Friends, Jesus had to be born because God wanted to reveal his own character to humanity, and embodied in His character is ‘Love.’ Jesus Christ had to be born to remove the sins of humans through a perfect sacrifice. Therefore, He had to be born so He could die and rise from death so that we, through Him, might live. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

We can see God’s love in the blessings He gives us. From the beauty of the world to the people in our lives, God is constantly giving us gifts, large and small, because He loves us. The most important gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. You can choose where you spend eternity. Jesus tells us we get to choose whether or not we’ll spend eternity with Him: “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my Word and believes Him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24 – NIV)

Eternal life with Jesus starts the minute we ask Him into our lives. The life we start with Jesus on earth will continue into eternity. And likewise, if we choose to live without Jesus on earth, we’ll continue to live without Him in eternity. We all should desire eternal life; all it requires is for us to ask Him. It is the most important gift we have ever been given. Ask Him today for this gift.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You hear and answer our prayers. We thank You that we can come boldly before Your throne of grace and receive mercy. Today, we believe that because You, Father, so love us, You sent Your only begotten son so that we may have eternal life.  So, Jesus, we invite You into our hearts, surrender our lives to You, and thank You for eternal life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
